all students to have an opportunity to compete, I do think that there needs to
be a clear bright line about when this is possible. Allowing students
into the novice division that do not meet the traditional definition of a
novice does open up a number of situations that could be more difficult to
define both in terms of 2nd year debaters in novice and 3rd
year debaters in JV. If the GFCA does allow this, then they should
consider giving some very clear and difficult to meet circumstances in which it
is allowed to limit potential issues with such a policy.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

options that deserve consideration until one of the current novices on the
squad is advanced enough to go JV. One would be to go maverick in the JV
division to some tournaments. The other option would be to see if a
student from another school could be part of a hybrid team at a tournament
(where tournaments allow for hybrids). Both of these options would allow
the student an opportunity to compete and continue to learn about debate
without needing to move down to novice.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

difficulty. I have a single returning debater (Danny Bunn) from last year who
competed at two tournaments last year. The entirety of my team otherwise are
true novice without even any middle school experience. Last year was the first
year of debate for Ridgeland since the late 80's or early 90's. <br>

I realize that coaches might at times just go ahead and enter Danny in Novice,
but I wanted to ask for a waiver from the group first. I think it would be
appropriate for him to compete at this point in the year in Novice CX, though
he has debated twice under a previous resolution. He has not been to any policy
competitions this year because I've not had anyone I could pair with him. <br>

For the record, Danny is a sophomore and he went 1-3 at Calhoun and (I think)
1-3 at Alpharetta last year. <br>
