I like the idea of two seperate divisions. I advanced the idea at the Fall Meeting that we gradually open the novice division through the year to more types of argument, but hadn't heard anything since then. I probably won't have anyone at state this year, even as a novice, but I think it would be a hard hill to climb to suddenly have to prepare for all types of args. If there were a choice, it would take care of that concern as well.

So "no" means only packet? There is no option of doing both? I really liked having two first-year divisions in prior years - seemed fair to have kids on the national circuit being able to use their best arguments without having to learn the packet, and seemed fair to the in-state kids because they didn't suddenly have to prepare for K and every other case neg and c/plan out there, just for one tournament.

In the Fall Meeting, coaches discussed the possibility of an open packet novice division. We tabled the discussion and said would revisit the situation via a survey later in the first semester.
You are voting on the status of the Novice Packet's usage at the First & Second Year State Championship in February. A vote of yes, means students are allowed to read new affirmatives, counterplans, disads, kritiks, and/or case arguments. A vote of no, means students are limited to the novice packet.
You can vote at:<http://thegfca.org/survey> http://thegfca.org/survey
Voting will close on December 20, 2011 at 12:00pm. We will announce the results soon after, and they will be enforced at the 2012 GFCA First & Second Year State Championships.
Additionally, we are in the process of finalizing locations and will have that announcement very soon. Sorry for any inconvenience.
