Coaches- Here is some information regarding Public Forum and the
International Public Policy Forum competition.

>From the National Forensic League:

Vote now for the October PF topic

The October Public Forum vote opens *Wednesday, August 24*, and continues
through *Wednesday, August 31*. One advisor from each active school may log
in to the Points
Application<http://e2ma.net/go/7176175480/208648983/224349875/1408141/goto:http://www.nflonline.org/points_application/>
to
cast his/her ballot. Voting will conclude at 4 p.m. CDT. Only schools that
were members of the National Forensic League last year or have become paid
members this year may vote.

The two resolutions from which advisors may choose are as follows:

*Resolved: The economic benefits of human space exploration outweighs the
costs.*

*Resolved: Private sector investment in human space exploration is
preferable to public sector investment.*

The October resolution will be announced on
*www.NFLonline.org*<http://e2ma.net/go/7176175480/208648983/224349876/1408141/goto:http://www.nflonline.org>
on
September 1, 2011.

And a debate opportunity.

Register for the IPPF!

Students should consider entering the 2011-12 International Public Policy
Forum (IPPF). This year’s IPPF topic is, “Resolved: Human missions should be
a significant focus of space exploration.”

To register, visit
*www.bickelbrewer.com/ippf<http://e2ma.net/go/7176175480/208648983/224349877/1408141/goto:http://www.bickelbrewer.com/ippf>
*.

After registering, teams will construct a 2,800 word qualifying round essay.
Each student who participates in writing your school’s essay earns 6 NFL
points and additional points per elimination round reached.

Now in its 11th year, the IPPF is the only debate competition that gives
high school students from across the globe the opportunity to participate in
written and oral debates on issues of public policy. Students compete for
NFL points, more than $50,000 in awards and prizes, and the chance to be
named one of the Elite Eight teams! The Elite Eight teams earn an
all-expenses-paid trip to IPPF Finals Weekend in New York City, where they
compete for a $10,000 grand prize!

I will continue to pass on speech and debate opportunities as I discover
them. Please feel free to do the same. The more opportunities available for
students means more effective speakers, debaters and community members.

Yours,
Mario Herrera
